Alligator Lake Recreation Area covers over 1000 acres and has 12 miles of hiking trails.
The extent and depth of the water in the lake varies with the season and the amount of rainfall....and so do the birds! No two walks at Alligator Lake are the same.
The dykes that extend out into the lake provide excellent viewing. In additon to the marshy habitat of the lake, trails wind through a wide diversity of
habitats. Hardwood swamp and woods provide opportunities to see songbirds including migrating warblers.
Our ALLI-WALKs are lead by expert birders who love to share their
knowledge and their scopes.
Over 150 species of birds have been identified at Alligator Lake. In 2009 two accidentals spent some weeks here...a Masked Duck and a Ruff.
